The Hampta Pass trek is a dramatic crossover from the lush Kullu Valley to the stark, arid landscape of Lahaul, ending with a surreal visit to the turquoise-blue Chandratal Lake. With changing terrains, alpine meadows, snowfields, and high mountain passes, this 5-day trek offers unmatched diversity and thrill.

Day-Wise Itinerary

  • Day 1: Drive from Manali to Jobra, Trek to Chika (2,980 m)

Drive 2 hours from Manali to Jobra through forests and apple orchards. Start your 2–3 hour trek to Chika, walking alongside Rani Nallah, crossing meadows and forest patches. Camp overnight in the peaceful Chika valley, surrounded by boulders, streams, and wildflowers.

  • Day 2: Chika to Balu ka Ghera (3,300 m)

Trek 5–6 hours through rhododendron forests and silver birch groves. Cross the picturesque Jwara valley and a gushing waterfall before climbing to Balu ka Ghera. Enjoy your first close-up views of snow-capped peaks. Camp near a stream on a flat meadow.

  • Day 3: Balu ka Ghera to Hampta Pass (4,270 m), Descend to Siagoru (3,600 m)

Today is the toughest and most rewarding day. Ascend over snowfields to Hampta Pass for stunning 360° views of Deo Tibba and the surrounding ranges. After celebrating your summit, descend carefully to Siagoru via slippery snow or scree. Camp beside a glacial stream.

  • Day 4: Siagoru to Chhatru (3,200 m), Drive to Chandratal (4,250 m)

Descend 2–3 hours on rocky terrain to reach the Chhatru roadhead. If roads and weather allow, drive 2.5–3 hours to Chandratal Lake, a turquoise gem in Spiti’s barren expanse. Spend time near the lake before returning to Chhatru or camping near the lake (weather dependent).

  • Day 5: Drive from Chhatru to Manali via Rohtang Pass

After breakfast, drive back to Manali via the scenic Rohtang Pass (3,980 m), enjoying panoramic views and winding roads. The journey takes ~6–7 hours. Reach Manali by late afternoon or evening, marking the end of a diverse and unforgettable Himalayan adventure.
